just upgraded my lighting from 4 * 50 w fluros to 2 * 175 w mh. picking the lights up in a couple of days and i was just wondering what the best way to acclimatise the corals to the new light was? as im fairly sure/ not positive that the sudden change would have some detrimental affects to my softies, mushrooms and few lps

It can have some affect on them, yes. I find changing one bulb at a time for about a week before changing another usually helps. Some people use a screen between their lights, and then slowly move it out a little more each day. While others use tinted glass and again, slowly move it out a little more each day.

Go to the hardware store and pick up some window screen. MAKE SURE IT'S THE PLASTIC SCREEN. It's realtively cheap. Then cut a bunch of peices to size. 3 or 4 will be plenty. Lay them over the top of your tank between the water and lights. Take one strip off every 2-3 days.

Lighting change, whether an increase, or decrease can lead to bleaching if it is a sudden change.
