HOB Filter/Heater Combo | |
JTF Enthusiast Posts: 245 Registered: 16-May-2004 | Are there any HOB's on the market that have a compartment in the filter itself to put a heater. This would be great for a small tank with limited space. |

I wouldn't trust those. I suppose one might fit in a large marineland filter due to their length but you wouldn't put a filter that size on anything less than a 29g usually and the heater will touch some plastic so may not work exactly right. There are hang on refugiums that work for both fresh and salt and can hold heaters and cannisters with built in heaters but it's not really possible with an hob. |

They, of course, have to be tetratec's heaters but they work pretty well. They've been out for several years and can be operated with or without the heater units themselves. If i remember, they're a bit pricy and bulky. They also have the 'living filter' mechanism which fills the chamber submersing biofoam, then drains it. What size tank were you looking to do this with? |

I would suggest to look into the VisiTherm Stealth Heaters, they are reliable, fully submersible, and black, so they blend in well. If you place one horizontally just a little above the substrate it will be not visible anymore once the plants in front of it have grown in. Hope this helps, Ingo |

Other than building a sump and housing the filter/heater in the sump, lil'fish's suggestion would be the best option. |

There you can see the tank with the heater in various positions, in its latest installment you can only see the power cord (albeit I don't have a Stealth in there yet). Have fun with the tank, Ingo |
