in my small tetra tank (6G) i have a small group of neons, another small group of black neons, a couple of chery barbs and 2 ottos.

on morning, at countdown, one of the black neons was missing. i looked for the forensic evidence to no avail. not even a fragment of a skeleton!
not in the filter, not stuck between the rocks or plants. i look thoroughly.
of course, i assume that fish is expired (been a long time now since i saw it), and i wonder what are the burial customs of tetras.

a real who-done-it story, eh?
got any clue to where that fish has disappeared?

If it isn't wedged at the bottom of any plants, or dried-up and on the floor, the body has probably been eaten. The other tetras and barbs will probably have picked at the dead fish a bit; the eyes and stomach are usually nibbled at. I bet the ottos then finished the job, eating away the rest of the "good stuff", or everything but the skeleton. The bones could be anywhere, fish bones are good at hiding.

Check around on the floor and all the crevices...you may never find out, sorry...

That is one of fishkeepers biggest mysteries, where did the dead body go? And if you looked everywhere imaginable, then there is still at least one place you can't imagine, ie where the body is

Chances are he became fish food in the great circle of life

Now for another question, do you have any idea why the fish died? He didn't jump did he? It has been known to happen...

IMO it died & was eaten by the other fish, or else it jumped out of the tank.

the lid was always on. he couldn't have jumped.
the tank is small, so there's no way i missed even a tiny skeleton. i had a lot of work moving plants around lately, so it should have poped out by now.

is there a "mafia tetra" i'm not aware of? they know how to take care of bodies...

seriously, it's quite a pitty. it's the first one i lose in more than 6 months.

If you have any decoration in the tank, check them thoroughly. I had a ram go missing and found him wedged in an unthinkable crevice. I've also had cories get stuck in ornaments. Both cories survived, the ram didn't.
