I am probably getting Black Neon tetras instead of Rummy nose, due to a loss of my last Sparkling Gourami. So I have decided to but down on the more delicate fish. (Apart from Panda corys obviously)

I will be getting about 6-8. The tank is planted with dim light and natural coloured gravel. It has lots of Bogwood and rocks down the bottom. Ph:6.6-6.8, GH:6-8 dGH
Temperature: 23-24 degrees. In Summer it may get up to 26 degrees.

I think they get to about 4cm, is this right?

Do they eat basic foods?

Will they suit my setup?

Any tips appreciated thankyou!

I think you would be fine with the Black Neons.
They are hardier than neons, and a bit larger , around 1.5-2 inches. I think they particularly look nice if you have lots of plants, and a blue background.
What happened to your Sparkling Gouramis?
Can I ask Labrakitty, whats your PH and hardness if you know?
Black Neons will show their absolute best in a soft acidic water with plants.
I think they will offset the Pearls very very nicely.
Again, I would say 6 is the right number.

My Ph is about 6.6-6.8, normally 6.8. My GH I will try to keep at 6dGH.

))Sneaky_Pete, here i the long, sad story of my Sparklings:

I got 2 sparkling gouramis, one died the day after i got it of dropsy, it seemed healthy in the shop. No signs of any bleeding or anything, all other fish fine, and water good.

So i got a new one. They paired and were happy for a while, until a disease broke out. One of my platys suddenly started getting thinner and thinner. We tried everything but in teh end she died sadly.

The older sparkling gourami got a little red patch, i put in melafix and it started getting better. Then it got a bit worse, and the next day she has dropsy. (sparkling gourami) I treated her in the hospital tank with antibiotics from the fish vet. she died sadly soon after.

I haven't been able to get another female since. I was planning to get one in a few days, but yesterday I notice my sparkling eating. (It is very rare to see mine eating as they are extremely shy)

Then a few hours later, I couldn't find him, then i see him lying dead on the gravel wtih 3 blood spots. When I saw him earlier that day, he was especially colourful and sparkly. NO sign of any blood or any unhealthyness.

I have been treating with Melafix incase of bacterial. Again, all my other fish are healthy and normal. I have decided not to get any more very delicate fish, especially sparkling gouramis.
:#(:#(:#(:#(:#(I have had quite bad luck with gouramis as my first gourami (dwarf) died a few days after as it came with oodinium. (VERY VERY VERY BAD AQUARIUM, DON'T GO THERE ANYMORE!!!!!]:|]:|]:|]]

Unfortunately labra, such is why we have the additional forums that are aimed towards the specific families. This way, I patrol the forums that I know something about (such as Tetras and Cyprinids) but avoid the forums in which I'm useless (such as Malawi Cichlids). While it may narrow the amount of answers you get, the answers you get will probably be given by folks who know more about that given subject...

Oleta did exactly what she should do. Sorry you don't agree...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

If you're running through gouramis (labys, in general, are amongst the hardiest of fishes, sparklers being no exception; sure, they're delicate, but no moreso than, say, a paracheirodon) that fast, I would relieve some of the blame from the LFS...bad stocks do not usually occur is such numbers and, as stated, they were healthy at the store. Wait a week next time before purchasing the fish, and make sure you're doing everything peerlessly on your part.

Also, amen to the above post.

Thanks Noodles, I think the guppy tank mates were proably to blame, as the lfs is the best in my city. (guppies..i haven't seen any better at any other lfs.) I quarantine my fish for 2-3 weeks, but these were an exception as I had bought them, but they were holding them, and I happened to have another fish in my QT tank, so they ended up just going in.

Sorry about what I said, I was wrong..I got lots of replys, thanks Oleta.

Black Neons are fairly tough fish, and I don't anticipate any problems for them at all in that tank. (I personally think that -- along with Glowlights, and also Harlequin and Hengeli Rasboras -- their beauty is vastly increased by putting a black backdrop in the tank.)
