While looking at fish at a lfs I saw a tank with fruit loop tetras. Does anyone have any info on these fish? They look like they were injected with colouring or something along the lines of cruel things people do to fish .

You are exactly right, they are injected with dye in an extremely cruel way. Check out this site.

Very good info on that site you posted. I just want to know why a really reptuable fish store chain would sell these . I have also seen these tetras at another lfs (well you can call it that if you want since its a fish section within a store) and they were too brightly coloured to be a naturally occuring species. One tank had these blue tetras that were a neon blue colour and another had these pink tetras that were almost a hot pink colour. Makes me mad to see these things done to fish. ]:|]:|

What i would do is print out a detailed desription of the horrible process and give it to the lfs owner...but that is just me being malicious...or you could just let the owner know that it makes his store unfavorable to shop at. Maybe print this out and give it to the lfs...

"Fruit Loop" tetras are just glass tetras with dye in them. Like mentioned above, the dying process is often cruel and can be fatal long-term. It almost always leads to an early death for the fish.

Sadly, even reputable fish stores will sell them.

Stop buying these Dyed Fish & stop supporting LFS that sells them.

So sad when you know that someone is buying them. Otherwise there wouldn't be a market for them and lfs would not be buying them. I think they are mostly purchased by first-time fish buyers.
