Hi there,
I just picked up 3 of these little beauties
yesterday.
Wondering what anyone can tell me about them?
I plan to get 3 more next shipment.
I have read the profiles but am looking for more personal experience with them.
They are currently schooling with my little Buenos Aires tetras I got last week.

I think that a bigger schoal is better, as they are a bit nippy with long finned fish.

I find them to be fairly hardy and very agile little fish. Red eyes are pretty tough in regards to water quality, and are one of the hardier tetras in that respect. They're very fast when they want to be, and do tend to be slightly nippy. They aren't as bad as serpaes and other tetras, but they can become bothersome to fish such as angels. As is conventional wisdom with many nippy fish, it is a good idea to add more when you can. They'll spend more time messing with each other than with tankmates.

So far they have settled in very well.
They enjoy eating, espescially the HBH 8 veggie
flake! They really seem to relish the veggie
flake, and I read that they are a vegetarian
tetra, is this true? Or do they just eat more
veggies than the average tetra, as per like
the diet requirements of Buenos Aires Tetras?

They are rowdy and schooling with my 7 Buenos Aires
Tetras, and seem to only be squabbling amongst the tetra group.
They do seem to be quite the sassy little tetra,
very boisterous, though they are incredibly intimidated
by my large angel and discus
Well, they are technically almost small enough
to be eaten by the angel, which they seem very aware
of!
I do plan to get more, was thinking of adding 4 more for
a group of 7, would that work, or should they be kept in even numbers? Would a group of 7 be enough to disperse any
aggression amongst themselves?
How big to they get? Fellow at the pet store said they are about the same size at adulthood as the Buenos Aires Tetra, is that correct?
They are real little beauties. I am very pleased to be seeing some more uncommon tetras around me lately, which is unusual but very exciting.
I am going to add some more of them on either monday or friday, depending on when they come in to the store.
Also found a pet store that stocks polka dot loaches,
excited about getting a pair more of them for 3, to keep
my lone one happy. The price is high (17.00 each) but worth it for such a beautiful loach.
Anyway thanks for any info from before and in advance!
It is, as always, extremely appreciated!

Red Eye Tetra's grow about 7cm & they'll be fine in a school of 7 & i think that they will show their aggression between them & hopefully leave the others alone.

As far as I know, these tetras do need plant matter in their diet. I'm not sure exactly what they feed on in the wild, but they do seem to need plant foods such as the flakes (spirulina?) that you've been feeding.

"I do plan to get more, was thinking of adding 4 more for

I don't think that fish care whether they're in an odd or even-numbered school; they probably can't even tell. The more red eyes you have, the better off they will be. Seven should be enough for a small, happy school.

"How big to they get? Fellow at the pet store said they are about the same size at adulthood as the Buenos Aires Tetra, is that correct?"

They do reach *almost* the same size, the red eye tetras stay probably a centimeter or half a cm smaller than the Buenos Aires tetras. They're still pretty large for tetras, though.

Thanks for the Info everyone.
I did get 4 more of these neat little
fish. That brings my total up to 7. They
are happy, active, and energetic.
Great coloring and appear very healthy!
Great fish. So far so good, they chase each
other and leave everyone else alone!
