Can a Redbelly Piranha be ok in a 35 or 40 gallon tank? There are so many different opinions online, but what is the answer?

Hi there,
I would say that considering the fact that a
Red Belly grows to 12 inches and possibly larger,
I would say no, a 40g tank is not large enough for a
12 inch fish.
If you want to keep piranha, I think a better size
tank would be 75g or larger.
That would just be my opinion though, and Im sure you
will get more opinions!

one wood b ok in a 40 until bout a year old at which it should b at least 6"
if kept in a 40 it will never reach anywhere close to its projected size n wont live as long nor grow as fast
a 75 is perfect for 1 red for life
i raise my fish in smaller tanks n upgrade them as i move them out
but i move the smallest of the fish to a bigger tank first to allow them to gain in size to b equal to the others

if u do decide a 40 gallon is all u got itd b ok for a year or so but keep the water clear n clean n much filtraation

i also questioned about this, but the answers i got were, that red belly piranhas like to school, and if but in not alot of room, will kill eachother, so a tank of 200 gallons is a good min, fora school of 6-8.

Id have to agree with chris unless you want a school of piranha with no eyes.Theyre a chunky fish, and they like to test cagemates, they have to have getaway room.

Messy feeders just isnt the word. You'll need water volume to cope with the pollution they create. Sure Ive seen them in smaller tanks, but then they dont seem to last too long like that either.
