The new Cardinals are being acclimatised as I type this. They've spent 30 minutes in temperature equalisation, and I'm now at the point where the water is being slowly exchanged. This should take about an hour. Once it's done, I can then sit back and watch the Cardinals get used to their new and much more spacious home.

And, at long last, my lone Cardinal in there will have some playmates - 11 of them to be precise. A shoal of 12 Cardinals should be a happy shoal!

Cool ! Though I was somewhat disappointed by the very same amount of Cardinals in a 25 gal. I was under the impression that they would school together all the time but it was not the case. Most often, they would be in 2 groups. Weird... Maybe my tank was too small for their taste.

Let us know if they school together and keep together all the time. Hope they will.

Cheers Cali !

Acclimatisation is just complete.

And they are practically bouncing off the walls with happiness at being in an aquarium full of plants and bogwood arches to frolic amongst. They're all crowding around the Java Moss to the right of my Amazon Swords, and the big lone Cardinal that was in there is now hopping about like a kid in a sweet shop because he's got playmates ... LOTS of them!

I'm going to give them about 30 minutes to settle in (though they look as if they're enjoying their new home like pigs in mud!) and then I'm going to feed them. During the quarantine stage, they were fed 10 times a day and they've almost doubled in size since I got them.

Not only that, but all of a sudden, discovering that there's a decent shoal of Tetras in there has perked up my Panda Corys too ... they're frolicking about like mad wondering where all the new fish came from, and whether or not they can play 'tag' with the new arrivals!

The Cardinals have coloured up amazingly too ... not just because I gave them colour food as part of their diet (which always helps the red part look like it's made of ruby) but because they've suddenly got lots of plants AND swimming space. They're absolute little jewels, and I reckon they'll look even more amazing once they're piled on a bit more body mass and they're closer in size to the big one that's already in there

Ah, nice to settle down to watch that spectacle on Christmas Eve

Hi Calilasseia - glad to hear all the new fishies are doing well! It sounds like you've been through some pretty stressful times with that water supply problem. Good start to a new year, perhaps?

Looking forward to seeing pictures when you can get some!

PS Merry Christmas

Looks like all the stinking water problems are way gone (thank goodness) In one of my previous postings I have noticed by increasing my Cardinals by three they are more out going. The new small ones never lost any of their colour and the older ones improved straight away.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

You're all going to love this.

Not only are my new Cardinals absolute little jewels, and not only have they brought the existing Cardinal from the old shoal out of his shell, but the addition of the Cardinals has somehow triggered spawning activity among my Pandas!

It's as if the Pandas had gone into a 'mourning period' for the other lost fish, and the addition of a decent sized shoal of Characins has brought this to an end ...

I've got sparkling Cardinals any my Pandas are back to being their old nutty selves again. A great Christmas present!

The tank wasn't desolate Fallout, it had a big lump of Java Moss in there that they kept swimming into to pick bits of food from!

Plus, since I put them in the Panda Fun Palace™ they seem to like hanging around in a big group near to my Java Moss on the bogwood arch - as though they're expecting lots of tasty titbits to be lurking there!

Never underestimate the intelligence of small fish ...

In fact four of them seem to be nipping bits of food from the Java Moss right now as I type this ... and I've only just switched the lights on!
