The last surviving Cardinal from my old batch has completely clear fins. The new ones? They've got white rays in the dorsal and anal fins! Thes white rays are the anteriormost rays - bit like those seen on Glowlights - and pretty conspicuous when you look at the fish against a dark background such as the Java Moss forests I have in the Panda Fun Palace™ ... Plus, we've already had another variation in circulation - the so-called 'goldback' Cardinal (I had one of these before my October wipeout), whose back scales, instead of being a dark brown, are a shimmering brassy-gold colour. Wonder how many more variations we're going to get among Cardinals? ![]() |

Are these wild imports that are showing species differentiation or are the fish the result of breeding in the Czech Republic or the Far East? __________ "To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." researched from Steven Wright |

What the parents were, though, is anyone's guess. ![]() ![]() |

Whether is has to do with sexual dimorphism or is just natural variance I'm not sure, but they are pretty common around here. I haven't seen any Gold Back Cardinals in a couple months though. I gave the two I had to some good customers with a huge planted tank and a school of about 30 other Cardinals. ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

Though getting some goldbacks and finding out if they breed 'true' is definitely a long term project for the moment ... ![]() |
