we went to lfs today and saw some lovely red/orange coloured tetras with lots of finnage. we looked at the name and vowed to look them up when we got home. typically we have forgotten the full name. they were something like high fin, but we cant find any similar on internet.

anyone any thoughts???

Were they high-fin serpae tetras, by any chance? They're the most common red "high-fin" tetras I've heard of. Other choices are possibly rosy tetras, or *maybe* there are high-fin flames (von rios) around. I'm betting on the serpaes, if anything.

EDIT: Maybe red phantoms?

Going with books' thoughts here are links to photos of each...maybe that will help some also...

[link=serpae tetras]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/serpae.xml" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]

[link=rosy tetras]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/rosytetra.xml" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]

[link=high-fin flames (von rios)]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/flame.xml" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]

[link=red phantoms]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/redphantom.xml" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]

I'm also adding the [link=bleeding heart]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/bleedingheart.xml" style="COLOR: #FFFFFF[/link]

Hopefully that helps some as well. If you still can't find it, do what I've done a number of timescall the lfs and ask them "Hi, I was just in there, and saw a type of tetra I really liked, and was going to do some research on it, but have forgotten the name...could you tell me what the name is? It was in the back right corner farthest from the doors, top row, third from corner" And then describe what it looked like, 9 times out of 10 they can tell you what it is really fast...good luck, heidi michelle

I know these aren't tetras, but could they be long-fin Rosy Barbs?

stocking list is on my profile. lfs said they are more likely to go for each other. however we have another tank to move them too if needs be. we lost one yesterday. was fine before we went out. came home and it was dead - all within an hour
