i bought 3 emperor tetras on monday. at the lfs i remembered that males have blue eyes and fems have green/yellow eyes. now i am not sure. did i remember correctly?plu i wantedto know how mny would do ok in a 20g. is 6 ok and will i have problems keeping males together?

Never heard or noticed that in mine. You have to wait till they grow big enough that the males tail starts to get 3 gs and the females won't have that middle extension. The females also end up quite a bit fatter than the males. I'm currently waiting for my 3 new ones to grow up enough before I move them in with the others.
Emperors are quite large tetras and I doubt 6 would be happy in a 20g but it's still possible to keep them since emperors are one of the few tetras that don't school. They would actually prefer a group of 2-3 in a tank that size. Any more and they'd be sitting at opposites ends of the tank because there's nowhere to swim where they are alone. In my 90g they either completely scatter or form pairs and trios and those groups swim seperate from each other.

I can vouch for the eye-color difference in regular Emperor Tetras (although both sexes of Blue Emperors have the same eye color).

I've never noticed any aggression in my Emperor Tetras, but then I've never had more than three males at one time in a 50-gallon tank.
