Looking for advice/recommendations on stocking options -

I've just finished cycling my 55g freshwater with zebra danios - I'm looking to do kind of a community angelfish tank with the following:

4 small angelfish
3 pearl gouramis
school of 6-8 cories
plus
a school of something from the tetra family - looking for advice/recommendations - I was looking at black skirts or serpae but have been told that they can get "nippy" - neons or cardinals would give the tank some nice color but am concerned with angels having them as a snack - thanks for your comments

Both of your fears are mostly valid. Serpae tetras are definitely pretty nippy, and black skirt tetras don't mind taking chunks out of big fins, either. The smaller tetras *might* become angelfish food, or they might not. It is a complicated subject, but it basically boils down to the personality of each angelfish. With several angels in the tank, there is a good chance that at least one would pose a threat to small tetras.

Are you looking for something that is super-colorful, or do you not mind so much? Some of the medium-sized tetras like lemons and silvertips would work out well, and have great personalities. Some of these medium tetras may nip at the angels from time to time, but it shouldn't be a big problem.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

To go with Angels? Hmm. Lemons aren't 'notorious' for being nippy, but can be boisterous and playful with each other, and this might give the Angels a nervous tic.

Something relatively peaceful, decent size, good colour, won't trouble the Angels or be troubled by them? What about Nematobrycon palmeri, Emperor Tetras? Or the alternative Golden Emperor, Nematobrycon amphiloxus?

Here is a good pic to show you what they're like (this is a male).

You could also go for Diamond Tetras, Moenkhausia pittieri, if you can find them. They are sexually dimorphic, the males having very elongate fins that will complement your Angels nicely.

Here]http:// is a good shot of Diamond Tetras ...

Sirbooks - thanks - I was primarily looking for something else to round out the tank - if they added color so much the better - I thought even allowing for growth I had some room to play with with a school of cories, 4 angels and 3 pearl gouramis - some people have suggested neons or cardinals as long as the angels are small to start with or harlequin rasboras, the lemon tetras were on my list as well as possibilities - I have a 45 gallon established tank with 4 very large angels - a geophagus proximus and a uaru and they all seem to get along well - I'm very partial to angels and the pearl gouramis I've seen are very nice so I was trying to do more of a community tank with the angels, pearls and cories in the 55 if that is possible -
