i have a school of 16(mixed) neons and some cardinals mixed in as well. well.neway there are two neons that left the group and are in the java moss. are they breeding or what.

If there's no real perceived threat to the school, neons a and cardinals don't always stay together.

How are your cardinals holding up so far.

they are schooling together, but not those two neons. also what is the sixe needs to be called a jumbo neon.

Your neons were probably not breeding, and just felt safe enough to split from the school. As has been said, tetras schools will break up into smaller fragments if the fish feel secure in their environment. My cardinals often roam the tank singly, or in twos or threes. It is perfectly normal.

The so-called "jumbo" neon tetras are usually neons that are at least three-quarters of an inch long, sometimes even as small as half an inch long. The name is often used to describe all but the smallest neons, because potential buyers think that they are getting a better deal that way.

all of my neons are big, but sinces it only a name well then they re-joined the school today.

well..the other neons must be exploring outside the school for they know that its safe

my neons hardyly school in my tank nowadays, but, if i change the water..they will crowd a small space away from my hand.

If you have any deeply shaded areas in your aquarium, keep an eye out for any that appear to be pairing off in the shaded areas. Especially if they perform a repeated circling motion around each other. This thread explains why you should look out for this.

as for jumbo neons iv eseen noens that were almost 1.75" long sold as jumbos
ive bred n raised thousands of neons n never did mine ever become near the size of what ive seen sold as jumbos
