Ive recently been looking around for a good type of tetra to add with my swordtails. I cant have a kind that requires a large school, due to space, but I was thinking of serpae, rosy, or flame tetras. Neon tetras would probably be a good beginer fish, but i want to know which kind would be the best community fish.

How big is the tank, and how many swordtails do you have? If you have a very small tank (you mentioned not much space) then you probably shoudn't add any tetras. They need schooling room and are very active. And they would like being in a shoal instead of only 2-3.
Sarpaes are very nippy, and they get to be bigger. Neons are smaller, but they still require swimming space, and a good school to be happy.
Again, give us the tank size, and other tankmates and we can give you the best choice

Well, its not what anyone would call a big tank. Its a 10g.long. I have 1 male and 2 female swordtails. I also want to know if tetras would be happy in a shoal of about 4-6.

hey- hello kitty- I have both black neons and serpea tetra.... the neons are a school of 5 and the serpea are 3... serp's are very nippy as already mentions... however I also have 2 female swordtail and 1 male swordtail... u might be able to do it but mine have been raised together, but if you are willing you might try a school of 3-4 probably the neons that might be better

I'd go with black neons in that case, too.
