Hi,
Last week I read Hillerman's, THE GHOSTWAY.
The week before I read Gear & Gear's, PEOPLE OF THE FIRE
This week I'm reading Clancy's Op Center, WAR OF EAGLES.

In between tech journals, I try to read at least one book
a week.

*gets ready to be burnt @the stake*

Couldnt' stand the one that came before...or was it after davinci...one of the very very very very very few books I stopped reading. Doesnt the author realize he's a day late and about $50 short? I can only hope I never meet him IRL

Did you read the code one and the NASA one as well? I thought they were both great fun, though Angels and Demons was my favorite.

Hmm, other good books ... Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles, but that's obviously got a limited audience!

Don't think of it as a genre ferret . It is today, it is yesterday...it's current. We have so much "soma" running around in our society these days it's amazing people don't realize it.

Funny that people keep mentioning Atwoods name...cant remember if I've yet found her @the library :%)!. I keep hopeing that she's just so popular that all her books are always checked out....I could check the Cc and find out for sure though .

Oh! the places you'll go by Dr. Suess. I needed a little reminder of all the bumps and slumps that life brings. Who better to turn to than Dr. Suess for issues with life, discussions of the cold war, and breakfast suggestions!.

Soma is a drug. It's basically supposed to be the perfect chemically-induced happiness supplement. BTW, I am also a fan of Brave New World, actually a fan of Aldous Huxley and the whole dystopian/utopian genre. 1984 is one of my favourite books ever, but I like almost anything by George Orwell as well. I like "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood, she is a good Canadian author. "A Clockwork Orange" is disturbing but also good if you enjoy the genre.

That's what I thought...I just didn't really get if it was like a food or a drink or something. I'm trying really hard to read it but I dont love that genre too much so it's hard for me. Especially when all I want to be doing is enjoying the last few days of summer.

what exactly is soma?!

I would say the best book I've read recently was "The Complete Illustrated Works of Hans Christian Andersen." I'm also a big fan of children's literature and the book rocks. A lot of them would probably not be considered appropriate for kids by today's standards, having not been Disney-fied.

The best book I've read in the last week is The Blind Assassin, by Margaret Atwood. All of her books are amazing.

The Shining City by Kate Forsyth

Good book, a bit rushed perhaps, but very good. Making me feel old though, as I tend to relate to the characters from her first series, who are about 40 years old in this series!

Certainly beats that 6th HP book

Also been reading way too many beading, computer and cooking magazines

Na adam you want riviting go with the official Mackie manual for the 1642-VLZ pro mixer ....I'm still waiting for the cappuccino that it said I should have .

I've mentioned him before ....but for those that that like fantasy/sci-fi but are annoyed at how most every single book is about a boy saving the world ...try Garth Nix (aussie author ) and his Abhorsen series....LOVELY and I'm not just saying that cause she's got dark hair and is a slight misfit .

*makes notes on authors and books*

Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell. I can't recommend it highly enough. If you're an adult who's abandoned fantasy books because they're all juvenile, or if you're a kid who's smarter than most books give you credit for - read this book. It's brilliant.

Other good ones: Scribbling the Cat, A Short History of Nearly Everything, The Works of Pepys ...
