So I have done 2, although i'm sorta not counting the first one because it was done on a budget for my brother.

The 2nd one is mine, and much cuter Its not finished yet, but i'm no longer embarrassed to take it out

So, does anyone know where I can get some nice polished horns?

Can I just ask, with the fake fur. Is that a gaming box? How do you keep it cool if it is? And how are you keeping the static and dust down? Do you use fan filters?

Its not dedicated gaming, but it can definately hold its own at our gatherings. (the others haven't seen it all furred up yet though can't wait to show it off )

The fur doesn't appear to make any difference to the case temp, odd really, I expected it would. I cheked out the gaming forums and magazines and all the furmodders seem to think the same, so I gave it a shot and I haven't had any problems. The fur itself doesn't cover any major ventilation holes, and its quite thin (it looks more plush than it really is). As far as I can figure, any heat being lost through the steel is far less than what it loses through air.
Its got a small issue in that its got a Phantom in there, which hots things up a little, but the extra fan seems to cancel that out.

Main air intake is under that front fan (yanked its smooth surface out for the photo) and there is also a fan in the top rear of the case. Because of the drives up the front, the air is forced to whizz over most of the important bits in order to get to the fan at the rear.
Its got an improvised dust filter on the front fan as the standard ones don't seem to cover the intake below. I'm going to get a standard one and rig up a little custom flappy bit eventually.

And I er, I groom it with a damp cloth on occasion to pick up any strays. I expect that keeps static down too. I haven't zapped anything yet *touch wood*. I tend not to dismantle it often, and usually fart about doing other things (losing screws, looking for manuals etc) before I touch anything inside. I'm sure you could zap your components, but I think you would have to try pretty hard, as I'm pretty accident-e and I haven't managed to make it happen .

Hopefully this w/end I can go and get some black rubber doorstoppers to use as 'hooves' which should further improve airflow around the case

so if you don't mind me asking, what hardware is in there? I considered furmodding my old box, but the heat output of my hardware really put me off. Now, even with 2 front case fans, a rear and 2 exhaust coolers, I can't keep mine at a sensible temp at LANs and that is with an ally case.

ASUS A7N8X-X
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (+ heatsink)
Radeon 9600
Antec Phantom 500
1 x 80GB HD
1 x 120GB HD
And a few other bits and bobs.

Needs a bit of an overhaul, but as I only game on occasion there is no great rush. Will need to poke and prod it a bit this year though Its already feeling ancient

nice system. i'm not really into case modding, figure it sits under a desk where nobody can see it, so out of site, out of mind. but the interior is sick.

P4 2.5, 1g 3200ddr ram, ati 9550 256mb video, 200g, 160g, 120g (all of my cds to mp3 storage) and 20g Maxtor, 56x cd, 8x dvd, 4x dvd-r/rw. 600w PSU and about 4 fans so far (red/blue leds). and yes i game alot.

Ooh - I used to have that mobo before I upgraded to the Lan Party. Mine started to gradually fail, so I thought it was better to replace than risk total comp death if it blew up! The 9600's are nice cards as well, I've still got my old one in a box somewhere to use as a spare should the need arise.

My main problem with heat comes from my 9800pro, it runs at silly temps and heats the entire case up

Mine doesnt really count as a mod, given I bought it that way. I considered cutting a blowhole into the top, but I have the fear of cutting an expensive case! The mod I'm thinking about atm is switches on the front of the case for the cathodes and the airpump for the aquarium side panel. It would be great if I could switch it all off easily, in case I want to leave my puter on overnight.

I thought about fitting a rheobus, trouble is that all the switches are dimmer style, and I need a binary switch for the pump so as not to risk it spiking or blowing out. So my vague plan is to mod a spare front panel with binary switches and one of those LCD displays.

OHHH yeah, is that the LianLi case? cutting anything in that would feel wrong somehow Lousy that you can't turn off the side panel with a standard case, thats a bit rough.

If it'd been a nice case, I probably wouldn't have touched it, but it was a cheapy beige beauty, and I figured I didn't have much to lose.

My bro has a 9800 in that top case, but he runs it with the side panels off most times so it isn't that bad. I couldn't do that, cases are there for a reason (in my case, to keep cats out!)

The LCD panels look pretty swish on those cases, I think Adam has one on his. I like the larger displays myself, they look more finished somehow. I think it has something to do with there being a tiny one on my dad's tape deck as a kid, I kind of associate them with old clunky tech .
I hear there are a few around that you can program images onto, so I'm considering one for the top of mine so I can have big cow eyes that blink and wink and close on shutdown etc. I haven't been brave enough to play with anything more complicated than a fan yet, so fingers crossed

And Monkeyboy, is there and space left inside that thing???? thats an awful lot of hardware! Nice machine though, and piccies of its guts (since this is a bit of a piccie thread )?

Yeah, my boyfriend has a gorgeous Lian li server case, full size and lovely. He cut 2 blowholes in the top. I was just like "what are you doing?!?" But it does look great, blue LED fans, with green case lighting and UV spotlight LED's.

i know. cept i rain out of compressed air, i think i'm just going to buy a small air compressor. another thing that i have to do is cut the back out and put the right kind of fan covers over so i get more circulation.

Ahh... gotcha! Ya know, that is the worst time to take pictures

BTW, the best fan grilles to use to get good circulation are NONE AT ALL

I only have them on 4 fans in my case (2 on the intake fans on the front of the case, the PSU, and side intake)

now that depends on where your puter lives, PW!

My box lives in my bedroom, it's dusty! I clean my front fan guards about every 2 weeks, I would not want all that junk getting sucked straight into my harddisks!!

I didn't say that it was the best way to go, just said that it was the best way to get the best circulation
