Yeah, I was thinking about removing that little bit of fin from the other fish, but I was worried it might make that fish look kind of weird. I dunno... What do you think, should it go? I don't think I can make it bigger (or make more of the tail show) without making that fish look anatomically incorrect.

I labled it as "tail of other fish" to make sure the artist wouldn't "attach" it to the first fish.

But I erased that part to show what it looks like. What do you think?

Maybe move the left fish farther to the left, and draw in a little more of it's body. That way it won't be missing part of it's tail...

I agree about eating before you go. Sugary things help as well, less chance of shock or feeling faint. Honestly I think the worst thing about a tattoo or a piercing (or even a blood test, for that matter!) is the anticipation. I get very nervous before anything like that, but it is NEVER as bad as I expected. To be honest I prefer the pain of a tattoo over the pain of a piercing, I find piercings to be more intense and shocking to the body whereas a tattoo is more a prolonged irritation kind of thing (not that I have a great deal of experience in either mind you - one tattoo done when I was 16 and two piercings).

Good luck - I'm sure you'll be fine, and I don't think you'll have any regrets! I'm excited for you - my second tattoo design is currently being worked on, and has been for about a year, so I'm getting a bit impatient! I'm planning to get it done by the end of this year. Lucky for me, my best friend is a professional tattooist and will do it for free (probably as my birthday present) and is also taking great care over the design to make sure it is perfect.

Maybe move the left fish around and turn him so he's level...

I kinda chopped off the right fish's head, but this is how I think the left fish should be placed...

I liked the tail. . . and the contrast that they were swimming together but in seperate directions. . .

IMO... it's on you FOREVER. .. go with your initial instints.

(Although weren't you supposed to do this already? I think I'm too late. . )

If you feel like you are getting tired or its hurting too much, just ask him to take a break. The last one I got was down the center part of my lower back about 6"x4" and took about 3 hours. The left side of the spine was painful and the right wasn't. For me the most painful part is the shading, but everyone is different.
Also, dont forget to breathe!!

I have four different ones and, for me, the pain was different each time. It's mostly just irritating. Like having someone scratch you with something over and over again. The pain afterward varies depending on location. My ankle tat that goes all the way around my right ankle hurt like hell for weeks afterward, but my shoulder tatoo barely registered. Good luck! Post pics when done.

Okay, well it's done.

I was so nervous when I went in there, but when he started it didn't hurt nearly as bad as I expected. The only way I can describe it is like someone rubbing a little toothbrush on a sunburn, which isn't that bad.

No pictures yet, though. It's still bandaged up. And it's not quite done yet either... When I go back for my touch-up in a couple weeks the artist is going to do some of the finer lines (he said that if he tried to do them today it would look really crappy once it healed).

Also, when I first went in there, the artist was watching a soap opera, which was pretty funny.

I took the bandages off, took some pictures, and got a good look at the tattoo, and it's not quite as realistic as I would have liked to be. Don't get me wrong, I still really like it, but I think I can make it look better, however. Here is what it looks like:

I think the main thing that is sort of getting to me is that the corys are a bit too plump (they are kind of tear drop-shaped). I think it can be fixed by making the caudal peduncle a bit thicker and longer (and maybe extending the tail fin a bit), which shouldn't be too hard.

Also, I would like the body plates more bold, because they are kind of hard to see. And the barbels on the second fish are slightly off (I don't think the artist realized they were supposed to be seen from behind), but that can fixed easily by just making those darker.

When should I get these changes done, like soon or when I go back to do touch-ups? I think once I get them done, I'll be perfectly satisfied with the tattoo.

Here are my ideas:

Yeah, everyone I've showed it to says that they really, really like it. I think with some minor improvements, it'll be perfect.

Now I sort of want a fish tattoo. You know what? When I wake up one morning with no memory of the previous night and a brand new fish tat, I'm going to blame you, Natalie.

I see how it is. I guess it is a little easier to bring a tat with you than huge reef tank. Can't wait to see that thing run though.
