Ok recently it seems I'm finding "other" uses for a lot of my fishy things...am I the only one, anyone have some others?

My most recent one has been my python...wonderful gizmo to help fill and empty tanks, along with water changes, well that is all the same isn't it

Well this afternoon I took the hosing of one and drained Sheila's play pool that was past getting funky, poor Mimi did not enjoy the swim

And it dawned on me the other night that I really wished I had a sprayer to wet Stanley (my pug) down with and rinse him while bathing him...I then got hit in the head literally by the tip of the python hanging from the water change from the night before, and thought what the heck? What do I have to lose? You know that thing gets great pressure and makes things so easy to rinse an animals tummy...just gotta be careful not to get any soap or stuffes in or on it

Anyone else got some useful ideas with fish stuffes?

Yup ya gotta love the python. I use a 7-gallon camping canteen thing to mix salt in. Kent pro-scrape(i think) stainless steel-blade works great on algae in sw and fw!

well, vinegar eels make cats urinate to try to cover the smell. I can't see a useful application for this, but it was the first thing that came to mind.

Tankwater and filter gunk are great on plants.

scourers onna stick make good replacement flyswatters in a pinch.

Pond/sump pumps work well for moving water from large containers (or the laundry sink) onto the garden

clear plastic airline tubing makes a good core for braided leather or beading projects. Silicone stuff isn't so good.

algae wafers make great cat treats.

I put all of my old tank water on plants too...it works wonders. Ma's got some hostas that are roughly twice the size of all of the others in the same patch because they get a lot of my tank water and the others don't

But my "filter gunk" doesn't come out of the filter...it all gets consumed by the Pothos (devil's ivy ) growing in it

The little plastic cups that bettas come in are great for scooping duckweed (and/or protien buildup) off of the surface of the water

Gravel makes a good base for potted plants -- if the pot doesn't have a drainage hole, fill the bottom with gravel, then put dirt on top... the water will drain into the gravel and the plant can suck it up as needed... no drowning your plant.

Betta cups are useful for all SORTS of things. I use it to scoop water out of betta tanks if I need to rearrange (no more spilling water over the edge by displacement), use the large ones to transport fish from tank to tank if need be, they can be used as temp photo shoot cups (tend to distort pictures somewhat, though), or to hold the yucky algae that you pull out of the tank before finding a garbage can. I use them all the time when I clean betta tanks (temp holding container for the bettas), great for adding water to the bag holding your fresh-from-the-LFS bag, and also work well to premix medicines or aquarium salt.

Nets can also be used to scoop up floating debris.

[font color="#800080"]Hostas in general love water, and yeah most all plants like the added NO3.

Tank gravel is also good for decorating the top of potted plants. Unless it's some evil neon orange color.
Then again if you like neon orange with your plants, more power to you (just please do not post any pictures).

Fish nets make good algae scrubbers (so long as it's not really tough algae).

And the other side of this issue. Credit cards (rinsed) make good algae scrubbers. Film cannisters (rinsed) make good holders for small portions of fish food, keep the rest in the freezer. Old pie tins make perfect light reflecters if you have a round topped tank.

Abbey!

I want to try that now, I'm rather uneasy about the whole deal though. Not to mention I dont keep plecos anymore so I dont think I have any around.

I use melafix mixed with my shampoo in my hair.....good for dry scalp and extra shine. :88) It also works mixed with skin cleansers to help heal blemishes.

Like kitten mentioned, ugly fluorescent aquarium gravel is good in plant pots for drainage. Activated carbon is good too, it can also be mixed with potting mix when it's dirty and smelly for a good organic fertilizer. Used peat granules from the filter can be used in the same way. Filter floss can be used in the bottom of pots for drainage and also as a good medium for getting new cuttings to root.
