Fair enuff - I'm just being nosy

50C with the stock heatsink isnt too bad - you'd prob knock a fair bit off that with just using a better heatsink and thermal paste. My AMD is running at 45-50C with the stock heatsink, I'm trying to find a new heatsink that will fit my mobo, so far every one i've tried fouls capacitors.

LANParty - nice board, no space anywhere on it!!!

It's not specifically a gaming box perse, but it will do the job nicely. I am not opposed to an SLI setup, but i wouldn't really get the FULL benefit of an SLI as there is only one pcix 16x on the board. The other pcix is 4x. Sure, it'd help out and there would be a difference, but with the amount of gaming i do i can't justify the extra cost. If i were to go all out, i'd just snag up a 3dlabs wildcat card and be done with it.

Arguing over ATI vs nVidia is like aruging AMD vs Intel. I just like ATI's products a bit better. nVidia has come a long way since their introduction, and they post slightly higher framerates most of the time, i like the image quality of ATI's cards a bit better. Anti-aliasing in particular bugs me, and i feel ATI is better in that camp.

Yea, it's 50c with the stock heatsink/fan. I think it can be better with a heatplate to tighten it up a little.

if it's a gaming box, what decided you to stick with ATI rather than try SLI with Nvidias?

My bf's justs et up an SLI rig - ooooh lovely. I'll prob switch to Nvidia nexttime I upgrade, though with £20,000 of debt and a 9800pro that's doing the job, it'll be a while.

Is it running @ 50C with the stock heatsink?

Thanks, i've been lookin' forward to this for a while.

I do pretty much everything with 'em... graphics, web surfin'/gamin', plain ole gamin', web design, word processin', music stuff, playin... nothing too outrageous. It's a nice all around machine, specially with the all-in-wonder card.

I'm still in the process of setting it up, mainly because i haven't been home a lot.

I agree that peltiers need a water cooling unit and sealant (even the backside of the board with a lacquer) to work properly, and it's not out of the question. I've spent way too much time around electronics than healthy, so i know the risks and the benefits. i've got 4 extra PSU's around so that's not a problem. It's just that i think the stock HSF unit would work acceptably if it were tighter, so i'm going to just try a copper heatplate first. I think that'll create a tight enough bond to transfer and dissipate some heat. That'll give me peace of mind so i can think if i really want to cool cool it in the meantime.

I don't see the point of having a large hard drive, myself. I got by for 5 years on 20g, but with programs becoming larger and more involved, i opted to get a larger one. Not just for the bigger space, but the fact that this one's faster than most others. Plus, if i run out of space, i'll just slap another one in there, she's got RAID built right in.

I agree w/the corsair ram, it's always been a favorite of mine, and these don't dissapoint. I started out small with a matched pair of 512's as well, but plan on upgrading in the future, as i'm a firm beliver in more ram the better. The board can take 8gb max, but i doubt i'll go that far.

Prescott's don't suck

I've always been suspicious of pelts having seen a mate kiss goodbye to a lovely system with one. Watercooling - a nightmare (I dont think the stains will ever come off my car from where another mate's reservoir leaked!)

Nice sounding system though, not enough HD space for me (400g and I'm struggling- need another 200g!)

I looove corsair ram though, just upgraded to a gig of DDR400 in a matched pair of 512's. Lovely stuff, straight into the slot like butter and windows is sooo much happier with it. Well worth the money.

I told you that prescott's suck

I might be able to help ya out with the pelt system... I tried that a while back and was rather dissappointed with it (I air cooled it, so that's why it didn't work ...yer supposed to use a really good watercooling system (or better yet, chilled water) )

Be sure you know what yer getting into if ya go with the pelt... be sure to have a lot of insulation, run it at the correct voltage, have enough power on a dedicated line from the PSU (a second PSU is actually best for pelts, but one works if you don't have a lot of stuff... but it don't look like that's the case )

If used correcty, you can do a lot with a good pelt... but they're an easy way to fry a cpu (you need a better one anyway )

Have fun
