It's the usual bad grades. Though definately not as bad as last year the parents thinks another 2 semesters without the computer will teach me to do better.

I can occasionally check in while in Computer Science, but don't expect me to be around too much more.

'tis getting old getting grounded every other quarter...

Two semesters? Yeah, looks like it would help a bit if you brought them grades up. See you around.

Sorry to hear that TF, but as a parent and grandparent I can understand your parents feelings towards your grades. I guess they could just do what my parents would have done as a child, and that would have been a trip behind the "old wood shed."

Gah tis ridiculous!!

Surely your parents remember a time when they learnt much more from the stuff that never got graded

Wasn't til College that my parents really learnt that if they leave me alone, I work well and can manage my own work. But U think every parent should just let their kids make that decision once they're old enough to understand the consequences of their actions. Imposing sanctions cos grades are poor is just stupid, better to face the consequence of getting consistently poor grades. People'd learn a whole lot more!

sorry to hear that Tetra. My advice:

Plan
Break tasks down so you can see you are progressing
Get it done (!)
Then reward yourself

eg If I finish reading this article and highlighting the relevant bits then I will reward myself by watching that 1/2 hour show I taped.

If your brain is fried and you can't think of any more essay-ish bits to write then scroll to end of doc and type your refs. That way you only have to tidy up before handing in (not the last minute time drain it usually is)

I have a bit of a full schedule and this works for me. Even for things that are not even academic. I do it with craft projects to propel me through.

I also love lists! So satisfying to cross stuff off the list.

All the best for your studies.

With todays work force all the bosses want is highly qualified people when applying for a job. You have to have the pieces of paper these days to get your foot into the door.
Also being a parent, grand parent and a teacher for 26 years education is extremly important. Personally I think you got off very lightly no grades no privileges.

It is only when you get older and become a parent your self you will see all the reasons behind your parents concerns about your education and future.

If you parents did not care at all, and let you do exactly what you want to do then and only then you would have something to complain about.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

You are not the only one who gets grounded from the computer. My 13 year old done lost his privilages and aint getn um back til ed o year. I remember when getting grounded meant I can't go outside and goof off with my friends (after the wood shed of course). Good grades = good future

They do? I've got an undergrad degree (2.1) and a Masters' and it's taken me 4 months to get a job. My friend with a 1st degree and a Masters' Distinction is still unemployed at 4 months and is not getting interviews cos he has no experience. My other friend, with tonnes of working experience in a very high responsibility job, again with a 1st degree and Masters' Distinction is working as a receptionist because that's the only job he could get.

Qualifications seem increasingly irrelevant in the workplace, IMO

4 quarters, but I always get the computer back for the summer...well most of the time.

I think I can easily start doing better this semester...I'm interested in chemistry so thats not to bad, computer science is a breeze, computer apps is pointless (but easy), and Civics...I'm just good at that.

If I get straight A's this quarter though, I get the computer back at interims in the 4th quarter(even though I basically prove the computer is a problem by doin' that...but hey my parents made the deal)

Anyway thanks for the advice and I hope not to be completely gone...might hop on to ask questions. Recently dealt with ich and lost my entire school or Rosy Tetras and 1 Blue Ram, so the parents say if I have another problem with my tank I can check here for help... (had no idea what to do so I tried medicines I heard on here from memory...quick cure worked good and fast)
