er, what do you call a baby snake?

Young ones are hatchlings or neonates, depending on whether they hatched from eggs or were born alive. Older babies are simply called juveniles.

OK, much better phrasing and a far better argument

I'll sleep soundly now. Except for dreams of oodles of baby snakes and feather boas in vivariums *shudder*

It's true.

Boas are non-native to Australia, and only native retiles are legal to own. Therefore, that means that since the general public can't own them, that means they are likely uneducated about them unless they spend all their time going to zoos or reading books about snakes that aren't even native to their country.

Australians don't know anything about Boas because they are illegal to own there...

Well there's a winning argument if I ever saw one

We don't live under rocks here, and Dave spends way too much time messing with all manner of reptiles to disregard his (rather blunt) opinions based on his country of residence alone. Disregard it if you must, but find a better reason.

I'd be offended, but I'm completely out of offendability today, so consider this a reminder to be a little more considerate.
AND ALL OF YOU - play nice and steady on the language please!

geez, all this over snakes. I never thought it could be such a fun topic

Pythons...

& just a small side note, Cory, why bother asking people for their opinions if you're gonna have a go at them when they express them? .....just seems counterproductive to me.....

How the hell can you pick one, theres huge examples of convergent evolution in both genera , green treas boas , and green tree pythons for example, retics are beautiful , and so are red -tails. Then youve got all the spotted pythons, all the west indian boas.. then youve got sand boas and lil pythons all over the place. Each genera has some incredible diversity from insect eaters to bird feeders, fish eaters and mammal feeders, and some specialist feeders too. They all range from mean and moody to positively peaceful. Some boas have better senses, and then some pythons show really diverse niche adaptation. Its impossible to choose. (PS, AUSTRALIANS DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT BOIDS - ahahahah! nice comment..LOL).

Actually I prefer lizards. They always manage to be that bit showier, smarter, and frankly most of them make snakes look like they dont do much. Lets be honest they dont really do that much, I should know Ive owned quite a few. I used to really love snakes but they are all kind of tubes with mouths on the end, At least with lizards you get a bit more variation, well that , and a bit more difficulty too. Lizards manage to be that bit more mentally interactive. A snake can ignore you all year unless you happen to be holding food.

There's plenty of boas that stay even smaller than the smallest pythons.

How many species stay smaller than 40cm?

Boas

I actually like them both, from a purely non-informed standpoint.. I've only had the opportunity to handle snakes that belong to my friends though so I'm just posting to listen to myself yap..

I didn't know that. I don't really know anything so I guess I shouldn't have voted. But I really love reptiles.

Better in the simplest meaning of the word, as in "which one do you prefer?".

Boas are far superior to pythons. All pythons look the same.
