OMG! its a Walk My Plank spider! check out the skull on it!

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

spiders are just so bloody amazing - has anyone seen the bbc's 'life in the undergrowth' series on silk-spinners? awesome in the true meaning of the (vastly overused) word. here in oz we have some spectacular orb-weavers - my neighbour has a large female that weaves below a frangipani tree - flowers fall and get caught in her web, they look gorgeous.

wmp spider! Amazing though!

matty that second one looks slightly like the one I posted which started the thread

A few nights ago adam and I had to amuse ourselves (well mostly just adam) chasing two very large huntsmen out of the house. The first one made me jump and call for a glass and paper so it could be put outside. The second one I'm sorry to say made me cry out quite loudly (as at this point I was tired, wanting to go to bed, and still having to make the bed up) for the glass again. Huntsmen move quite fast and this one did a round of the bedroom before deciding to go after the cat. At that point we realized it was too large to even fit in the glass and just got the paper. We don't normally kill first, this one just asked for it when it went after the cat.

Even sadder, I didn't get pics

^_^

Noticed this guy just past the strawberries on the porch.

As it was facing me, I got a shot I don't normally get.

Good old fashioned baby Canadian Dock Spider. Note the lumber the spider is beside is a 2x4.
They like to sun themselves on a dock, and scare the bejeebers out of anyone that happens by!!

I have a couple of spiders that need IDs...

The first one is a very common species, plain yellowish in color and about 1-2cm legspan. They sit in the corners of the wall and don't move too much. I'm pretty sure they are native as well.

The second species is terrifying. They are large and run about as fast as I walk, and they generally appear when and where you least expect them to. This one I found last night was small (with a legspan of about 5cm, though, I use the term "small" loosely), and I have seen many almost twice its size. I think they are non-native, because I only see them in buildings or in grocery store produce sections.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

I spotted this one while doing some work on my veranda.
This fella was in the plant pot...seems like they like it there.

Nah... They're not quite as terrifying as clockspiders.
