Hi guys. With 4 kids now, as you can probably guess, I am getting SO forgetful, and dang, the appointments I have to remember I am wanting to get a small, inexpensive PDA. I don't need anything but an electronic dayplanner. An address book would be nice, but not essential. Can you give me an idea of what I want? what is the best, most user-friendly, but economical PDA you know of?

Having looked at whats out there at the moment I would say that a huge number of PDA's are massively overpriced for the amount of memory they have, especially compared to the multimedia storage players at the moment, some of these even have operating systems and are just as useful as PDA's so like a lot of people I decided to hold off on getting one until the prices become a bit more sensible, and the size of the memory becomes more useful. I think after the new year there might be a few more bargains.

Why buy a pda for £200- £300 when you can get a multimedia with an os for the same money with 60 times the memory? Ok a media player is no replacement for a PDA in terms of functionality, but this has got to change soon. I think what we'll be seeing are new devices that bridge the gap between pda and laptops any day now. I think a lot of the currenty available PDA's are about to be superceded or replaced, so Id wait a bit and see what turns up.

You could always get a filofax to tide yourself over for a bit, only a few bucks.

but I don't want anything to do with an mp3 player, and I get sick of having to buy fillers for dayplanners. As far as I am concerned, radio is fine with me, and not XM, either. I am old enough that music just isn't that important. All I want is an electronic day planner so I never need to buy another filler.

I prefer windows based operating systems on my PDA's..I like the Ipaq's and you can normally find them pretty cheap. Right now Im using an Audiovox cell phone/PDA all in one.

ViewSonic also makes a decent lower priced windows based PDA.

I have an older one somewhere..let me look around and see if I can find it. If I can find it then Ill send it to you. I think all you would need to buy for it is a charger cord.

Ah Honey, you just need a nice youthful secretary to keep track of your appointments and help get you to them on time. Hopefully he'll be able to watch babies and cook too so you can sit back and put your feet up and keep in touch with your buddies more.. *hint, hint*

Yep, tell 'the dork' to buy you one for Christmas, that's what I'm thinking I need to do here...

I personally like the PalmOS PDA's... I've gone thru enough of them

Sony used to make some really good ones, but they dropped out of the PDA market...

I'd go with a Pa1mOne (or whatever their name is now) PDA... the Zire series is cheap/decent enough. IME, don't go with something on the absolute bottom of the line... it will totally suck, an' then they will put you on the end of the tech support lists an' whatnot...

Have fun

I can highly recommend the Ipaqs, particularly the 4700. Ive had mine for 2 months now and its revolutionised my life, particularly my commute.

The array of software and stuff you can do with it is amazing.
