Well. I have news.

Not good news. Well, it might be good news depending on how you look at it.

As some of you know, I've got back problems. And I finally decided to see a specialist about it. Went to the specialist and he confirmed my thoughts of sciatica. Then he went one step further and wanted to find out the cause of it (been going on over 5 years now).

Had an MRI 12/27. Got the results back today. I've got degeneration in my lumbar spine in three areas. And on top of that I've got severe herniation in one of my discs.

I've got two choices.

1. Do nothing (and be in pain)
2. Have the surgery and remove the disc.

I've (we've) opted for surgery. Because the herniation is pressing against my spine (and nerve that goes down into my right leg) he wants to do them as soon as possible. Clearing all medical tests. It looks to be the 1/17 as to when I have surgery. I'll be in hospital overnight and laid up for three weeks.

Ahh, what a great start to the year. But at least I'll be out of pain!

Dallas, that is a really big deal. Maybe you can do some prep to look after yourself so your body will be back into it even sooner. Check out supplements so you have cell healing/regeneration stuff floating in your system.

Maybe a bit of rescue remedy if you are up for it. Take daily for about 2 wks before surgery and then post op as well. Just helps the body get over trauma (surgery is a bit of a body blow)

All the best for a pain free and more active year. zero-six year of gettin' better!

im nearly in the same boat as you dallas, i have a disc in my back that is stuffed and pushes on the nerve every now and then. very painfull.

my doctor said that the next time my back goes out its surgery to get it fixed.

very scary really.esspecially when my work involves crawling through ceilings, under houses, lifting heavy things etc.

i feel your pain

I'll be your hospital buddy!

I'm going to end up with knee surgery. >.< Yeah, it sucks, but it does get you out of pain right.

We'll find lots of ways to keep you busy while you're stuck in bed.

Best wishes!

I am happy to hear that there is a way to make it better, although, I wish it was something a little less drastic than surgery and a bit easier than laying in bed for 3 weeks. . .

Good luck... keep us posted on your recovery!!

Good luck! My aunt had the same thing done, two of my aunts actually. Dont sweat it, after the operation they were fine and all the pain was gone, you chose the right option
