Geography and history would be good subjects, since they usually are in students curriculumns later on. It would be good to get them started earlier.

Japenese would be good if they have interest in the language, other wise, it would be a waste of time.

Commerce and technology may seem a bit advanced for them IMO.. I think it would be easier for them to be on subjects which they can understand easily and excel in.

Did you ask them what classes they would want to take? They might have interest in some of the classes..

Out of those, I would choose Commerce, D&T, Photography and elective history.

I would avoid japanese unless you really want to run with it... I tried, and failed miserably as learning 3 new alphabets, new grammar and trying to get the inflection right, well, yeah, didn't work so well. On my brief stopover visit to Japan, I got by on english and what I had learned in yr 7/8.
2 of my classmates now live over there, so i suppose it just depends. Wasn't really my thing... I would have prefered to learn French or German. (choices were Japanese or Italian, and i thought Japanese would be more useful over here)

Photography and visual design

They'll be tons useful...design especially as it'll help with presentations and projects in the future.

Photography because life is better when you're holding a camera.

I agree with babel, there are so many links between photography and visual art or design. I wish I could have been able to do some of them subjects you can. I have just finished my GCSE's and I get the results in about a week and a bit. I'm getting kinda nervous
But at the end of the day its your choice.

Von Dutch?

You have to pick three to do and Two in reserve in case there isn't space on the your first choices?

if you have to study these subjects for two years, then
either

1. pick the things you like to do, as in you like to study or are all ready Good at. even if they won't lead to a career - at this point you have to think about What you like doing - think about nights with homework!!!how bored do you want to be?!?!

2. or if you don't know what they are and what they will involve go through the list and cross everything you won't do under any cricumstances - there must be some you don't like. then go ask teachers/older kids about what is left
think about - homework, Course work (do you have that? - work youcomplete during the year that counts to your final grade?), do you need to go on trips?(always fun)etc.

good luck difficult decisions!

GFG

Of those you listed I would choose Japanese (languages interest me), photography, design and technology, and information and software-technology...i'd stay away from music, geography and history but that's just me
