What has always worked for me, is to choose a focus point, like for example a rock or wood formation out of the center of the tank, in than way your eyes will go all over the tank to finally set on this point. Also what really works great is to try to contrast plant shapes, size, texture and color, even if they are all green, different shades of green add depth to the tank, for example, if you place long leave or long stem plants at the back and then arrange the variety of the plants from back to front, it will look much deeper, that's size of the plant wise. As for color, dark greens at the back and lighter shades at the front will make it look deeper, if it's the other way around (dark greens at the front, light shades at the back) will create a focus point in the front of the tank, and the back will me seen as "filling". Since you have kind of red rock or wood, not sure, that is by itself a natural contrast color wise, so try to back all the stones or wood with plans, they will accentuate them. With texture you can do the same and accomplish different results, you can use wide leafed plants in the back and in front smaller leafed ones, that will make both to stand out. Hope this helps |
