Ceramic in aquarium? | |
ReikoX Hobbyist Posts: 71 Kudos: 306 Votes: 14 Registered: 29-Jun-2004 | I was wondering if I could use ceramics in my aquarium. The pieces would be fired with a non-toxic glaze (for use on plates and cooking utencils). I have read that ceramics will not leech. Do you think this would be suitable for caves? I can get some pots and cut them in half while they are greenware, then glaze them with many interesting colors. Will this work? |

You know the ones that have a entrance where you put those little nite lite candles and the oil is on top (just make sure it's a new one not used)? These were ready made caves and the flat tops made it easy to pile gravel or put plants with dangly leaves to disguise the ceramic. Another idea if you want a more natural look is to coat the ceramic in some aquarium silicone and the roll the ceramic in gravel and let dry. The gravel will stick to the ceramic and you've got a very natural looking cave that will blend in with the surroundings. Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

I have access to a kiln so I can fire it myself. Most of the time it costs just as much as a normal decoration would, but it is customized. In the greenware stage I can cut holes and such in the ceramic to make caves. Also the glazes come in many cool colors. Thanks for the input, I figured most of the decorations I have seen are ceramic, I just wanted to make sure. I'll let you know if I find anything really cool :88) |
