I have several different types of plants in my 25 gallon tank but I do not know exactly how to trim them. I saw some other tanks that had plants liek the ones I have the thing is their plats were cut totally different than mine.

I have
Rotala
Water Wisteria
Red Ludwigia
Mint Charlie
Aponogeton

The wisteria I saw on pne of the posts was short as more of a ground cover. My wisteria is tall. I will try to post some pictures soon, but I have to get a hold of a camera first to take some pictures. I do not think my camera on my phone will be clear enough for you guys to be able to help.
Could you tell me if any of them need to be a ground cover or a taller plant, like the apons. Thanks

Christina

Hey Christina I thought I had answered to this post earlier
but I must have forgotten to hit the post button .

Some of those stem plants, you can just cut the tops off to
get bushier growth. Others won't take the haicut as well and
it is best to uproot them and cut off the bottom third.
replant the top two thirds an voila. As for the wisteria
growing as a foreground I have only seen it do this under high
light and constant trimming.

The Aponogeton is a bulb plant, and all you can really do is
cut off the old, diein and dead leaves.

HTH,
Megil.

Ok, that kind of answered my question. The 4 plants I listed, how do I trim them? i really love these plants, so I want them to last and thrive. If you could tell me how to cut them that owudl be great. Thanks

The rotala(i'm guessing it's Rotala indica)and the red
ludwigia (guessing L. repens) you can give haircuts to
and get bushier growth. The creeping charlie can also take
the same treatment I believe but I have no experience with
that plant.

The wysteria I would to the 2/3 cut and replant, toss the
bottom half. Not sure how it reacts to the haircut, it may
actually get bushier, if it is really thriving give mayb a
fourth of it a haircut just to see wether or not it will
take it well (forming side shoots and smaller leaves).

And the Apon. cut the old, dead, and dieing leave as close to
the bulb as possible.

HTH,
Megil.

Thanks I think that will help me a bit more. I am still a tiny bit confused though. You cut the bottom half of the wisteria off and toss it and replant the top half? Is that right?

Yep wisteria is one of those plants that gets really poor looking if you continually trim the top off.
And since it grows roots quickly enough you should have no problem .
