Driftwood problem | |
GirlieGirl8519 Fish Master *Malawi Planter* Posts: 1468 Kudos: 1029 Votes: 35 Registered: 25-Mar-2005 | I have a piece of driftwood that is a little over a foot long. It has been sitting in a tub of water for 2 and a half weeks and is still not waterlogged. I got it from my LFS and didn't do anything to clean it. I have a smaller piece that I got from Big Al's and I put it in my tank right away and it waterlogged very quickly. The big piece wouldn't even stay underwater. How long does it take a slightly larger piece of DW to sink? |

And just like with a facial you have to get those pores to open in order of the water to waterlog the wood :%). Warm to hot (not too much boiling) water will help in the process as it will open the wood up. Some wood has a horrid habit of taking ages to sink, if ever. In some cases you can weigh it down with some rocks or if they dont figure into your aquascape in anyway they can be attached to the bottom of the wood then covered in the substrate. ^_^[hr width='40%'] It's heartache every moment baby with you my darling with you."~ |

My other piece is half the size or smaller than the slow sinking one so I just thought this one would be fast too. I have weights on it to keep it under water in the bucket its in. I will give it a couple more weeks. |

ATM i'm doing the same process & it's been a month, but the wood isn't waterlogged yet. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

The larger piece of dead wood (pine ...which isnt' the best when it comes to driftwood options :%)) that I have in my 30 at the office took so long to sink that I never quite noticed how long! Just one day when I lifted the rock it didnt come shooting out of the tank as per usual. ^_^[hr width='40%']"Ank-Morpork people considered that spelling was a sort of optional extra.
