I'm not a newbie to fishkeeping but this is the first time I've ever tried sand. I put some of that cool Tahitian moon sand in a 36g today and the water is still black 4 hours later!

So here's my dumb question(s):
-how long can I expect the water to be cloudy with sand?
-when can I turn the filter back on? (eclipse 3 system)

Thanks! Becky

Did you rinse the sand, about 50 times?

i would do more partial water changes being careful not to stir up the substate, also if its been 4 hours i dont think any sand particles would still be in suspension so you could turn your filter on again

Yep, I rinsed but obviously not enough. Duh.

I stuck a couple of hob filters on there, ones that I don't care if the impellers get chewed up on. It's finally starting to clear up.

Duh,

P.S. And thanks for the replies!

Something you might also try is if you've got extra filter floss stick that over the intake tube on the fitler as it'll be much more effecient in trapping the particles, then as the filter starts to slow, pull the floss off give it a risnse out under the tap and stick it right back on agian :%).

Seems you never can rinse sand enough .
