Well, I got your attention. Anyone know how to clean brown algae off of silk plants? I'm scared to try bleach, figured it would turn them all white. Any suggestions?

i have scrubbed it off, and it worked fine. But if you want to bleach them, use a 10 part water to 1 part bleach solution. 10- 1 wont leach out the color of the plants, just rince really well and dechlorinate really well,. then rince again in dechlored water before putting them back in.

I've bleached plastic plants with no problems. I just figured with silk it would ruin them. Thanks for the replys.

the bleach is fine, i left mine uin for 3weeks once and it did fade them slightly, but they are still coloured not bad for an extended 'dip'

I have no idea what could have been living on a silk plant that would have required three weeks in a bleach bath to kill, but I hope that whatever it was, you at least named it...

As said, bleach will work, but I've not found any plants so far that I wasn't able to just rub brown algae off of in between my fingers...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

silk plants also do well run through the dishwasher with no soap in the dishwasher.

BigAlsOnline sells Plus Plastic Plant Cleaner. I bought some, but haven't tried it yet. Figured it's got to be safer than bleach.
