Ill probably take my oto back, like you said Babelfish. They were an unexpected addition after my friend got rid of one of her tanks. I should of said no, but i do have a soft spot for otos.

I'll do graffiti,
If you sing to me in French.

2 Croaking Gourami
3 Sparkling Gourami
1 Days Paradise Fish (extremely peaceful and hardy)

Sorry for the Gourami species, but those are best for smaller tanks without the "extras". Just make sure it is heated properally.

I wouldn't put any schooling fiah in a 5 gallon. There just isn't any room. Other than that, the ideas on Katieb's list are good.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Curare -

There's a bunch of threads on the subject if you want to take a look back. I intend to put a few betta imbellis in my five gallon, but you could probably make up a bunch of different stocking suggestions. Perhaps a trio of male guppies? ADF? Killies (I think)? Lots of ideas.

What else could you put in a 5 gal hex, apart from a betta?

Just out of Curiosity.

If i had the money and space for a 55, id have in no time flat. Im starting to look at corners and empty spaces in the house to see if its big enough for another tank. Classic MTS I guess

I have a 5 gal hex. Right now it has some terra cotta pots and a silk plant. Im thinking of adding driftwood with jave moss/fern.

13"L x 11.25"W x 15.5"H

It will have a flour light of 11 watts.

So give me some ideas. Falstaf, if its not too much trouble, maybe you could do a photoshop pic.

katieb,
5 gallon tanks are difficult to stock....ottos especially are bad for them. Not only are they schooling fish but they also prefer a current, and stable water quality, something rather difficult to achieve in a 10 gallon let alone a 5 gallon tank. If you don't have another tank to move the otto to I'd suggest exchanging him @the lfs for a few more male guppies, or going with just a male betta in that tank. Just not guppies and betta's together.

Sorry you lost some of them

^_^

Thank you falstaf for taking time out to help me. Unfortunaltly my stock list now stands at 1 guppy and 1 oto. My newest oto and platy died, seems the shipping to the lfs was too much for them.

BTW, your tank is awesome looking. I like the blue theme.

Hi, sure i can come up with something, silk plants will work fine, i'll work something out during the day and i could have something later on.

Curare, Thanks the wood piece is just resting in the bottom and back of the tank, it's kind of a hollow piece so inside of it, it's the heater, filter and thermometer. I like to use a lot like one piece in the design that is really big, i think it makes a sight focus more in the design than in the rest of the ellements like substrate and the actual tank.

Falstaf, that looks absolutely stunning.

If you don't mind me asking, what have you done to get the driftwood staying upright like that?

No betta, i have 2 ottos and a guppy ( my platy just kicked the bucket. Right now i have a 15 watt incandescent and a built in filtering system with bio-wheel. Im thinking of going flourescent, so that i can add plants. The only concern i have is heating, my 15 watt light bulb is doing a good job of keeping the water warm during the day, with a small gradual cool off at night. Im afraid if i get flourescent i wont get that heat and my tank is built so that you cant remove the filtration. Which means adding a heater could be tricky.

Anyway im think of doing an all silk or half real/half-fake plants, i good piece of driftwood, and maybe a smallish rock. Basically a very natural tank.

BTW, thank you so much for taking time out to help. You seem to have a knack for aquascaping. I really appreciate your efforts.

Hi!

Hex tanks are my favourite to do, they are the most difficult ones to make look good since they have this eye tricking effect to them, they have like different views o the same object and in the same visual plane.

I would love to help, but i will need a little help from you, like what kind of lighting, I can see in the photo that is a deep tank, that can be tricky light wise. Also what fish are going in there, only the betta? and also which is the most difficult with hex tanks. what is your heating, and filtering system?

This is what i did with mine
