My tank is looking a lot better than it used to. Those who have seen pictures of what it formerly looked like will certainly agree. However, the back area is still empty, and I hate having plastic plants instead of live ones. To those who reply- Would it be worth it to pay $75 U.S. for a double-light fixture, and convert to live plants? I can either just buy the whole thing now, or wait until my birthday, where I’d probably just pay for half.

The only plant that is doing remotely well is the Aponogeton just to the right of my bubble bar, in the blurry pic. The water sprite in the second picture was just bought on Sunday, and is already losing leaves.

Fast answers would be appreciated, and I’m sorry for the bad pictures.

well, if you want the live plants in your tank to grow well, then you probably should invest in some quality lighting to help them out a little. i don't think i've seen the "before" pics, so i can't judge how different your tank is now. but i think that you could get by with something else in back instead of plants, like driftwood or maybe a rock pile or something. that is, if you decide not to get the new lighting.

Or you could just use the money for silk plants which reportadly look much more realistic than plastic. I don't want to dissuade you from going with live plants, but if money is a concern then silk, or mix of silk and live low light might be an option. You wouldn't just have to buy the lights after all, there's bulbs, the plants themselves, possibly new substrate...ect ect ect...
