I have found some gnarled root polystyrene backing pieces (AquaOne) and I'm considering getting 2 for my 4' tank.

how do I attach?

LFS guy and myself thought perhaps some strong magnets, embed one in the foam and stick one on the back of the tank. I thought perhaps silicone, but i'd rather not. LFS guy also said that if the tank is the right size (which it isn't, its 4' too big) it should stay put.

Anyone used these?

Hi Callatya,

Although you can try it without silicone, I would not recommend it. polystyrene is very buoyant and if it is smaller than your tank it will almost certain try to float up. Only give it a try if the back of yout tank has an overhanging edge that can hold it down, then you set it into place with some heavy rocks agains the bottom or a thick layer of substrate (5-10 cm minimum). It should work, but make ceratian that there are no openings on the sides, the styrene has the tendency to come forward a bit and if the openings are too big, fish can and will go behind it. Give it a try without fish first, if it doesn't work, use silicone.

Good luck
