Question about rocks! | |
So_Very_Sneaky Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3238 Kudos: 2272 Votes: 201 Registered: 10-Mar-2004 | Hi all, I have decided that despite the wonderous driftwood and live plants my 90g tank will have, it will also need some larger rocks to add that "amazon river" feel to the tank. Can I use just any rock, like say from local rivers around here? Is there a way to tell whether or not this rock will raise the ph in my tank? I know limestone will raise ph, so I will avoid it at all costs, but what other types of rock should I avoid? Is shale ok for freshwater acidic setups? Ph will be 6.5 and I dont want to go above 6.8. Some look clean but have heavy pollution, and not be the best for the tank. Before adding it to the tank, scratch the surface and pour a small ammount of vineger on it. If it bubbles it means that it'll raise the kh/ph. Once you've decided it's okay, boil or bake it to make sure nothing's still alive on/in it. HTH a bit ^_^ [/font] |
