Sand Substrate maintenance | |
Fish_lover Fish Addict Posts: 742 Kudos: 176 Votes: 0 Registered: 14-Nov-2001 | Hi all...i've been thinking of using sand as my substrate in my 2ft tank. Thing is, if i eventually do put sand in there, and i use a gravel vac to clean up debris on the tnak's bottom, wouldn't the fine grains of sand be sucked up as well? Are there any other alternatives to maintenance of sand substrate that does not result in weekly and gradual loss of sand in the course of cleaning? |

It's quite easy. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.deathbydyeing.org/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

I have a powerhead on one end of the tank and a HOB filter on the other. The powerhead is positioned high enough that it keeps the waste from settling but won't kick up the sand (this took awhile to get set right). The HOB then picks up the waste that's been allowed to remain suspended in the water column for longer than without a powerhead. ^_^ [hr width='40%'] It only hurts when I breathe" |
