Sand in the tank | |
dogmai333 Hobbyist Posts: 90 Kudos: 79 Votes: 19 Registered: 03-Feb-2005 | hello i am thinking about upgrading my 10 gallon tank to a 55 gallon and i want to put sand in it because i read that my dinosaur eels like to dig in the sand. my questions are: what kind of sand should i use, where can i get it (like home depot or some where) and how would i clean it or do i need to clean it? thanks for any suggestions. It looks pretty nice and natural, but you have to wash it. A lot. And once you think you've washed it enough, wash it a couple times more. Even then you'll get cloudy water for a few days. It does go away, though, and the overall effect of the sand is nice. I like it a lot better than gravel. EDIT: What I do to wash it is put it in a clean tub/bucket. I use the garden hose and, well, wash it . Stir it up, dump the water, refill, etc. Last edited by Janna at 07-Apr-2005 00:03 They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |

The stuff comes in brown and grey and is very cheap... like 8 dollars for 50 pounds. I'll let you know how it goes, or maybe you would like to look into it also. I think that it is crushed silica and does not cloud up as easily. ________________________________________ The calming qualities of a good aquarium are irrefutable |

It will take you some time, but it's better than having a clowdy tank for a week or so. In the tank, Sand is easy to clean, just pass the siphon about 1 inch from the sand & the "Poo" will come up & leave the sand in your tank, nice & clean. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.deathbydyeing.org/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
