Thanks. Another reason I am annoyed about it is because my tank has lots of live plants, so I know they aren't getting as much light as they should when the water is tea colored. I am going to see if my neighbor has a giant pot I can boil it in, do you think that will help enough to make it worth the trouble?

Thanks,
Lauren

Its really not a totaly bad look. Some people prefer the "black water" look. I wouldn't chuck it. The only other thing you could do is what your already doing- partial water changes.

So what if people keep asking you about the water color- it gives you a chance to explain about it- good conversation piece

I just called the store and they told me they couldn't take it back. I could probably make a stink about it on the technicality that the guy told me it wouldn't do that, but I don't want to be mean about it. I am just ready for my tank to look good already! I don't think I can boil it because it is pretty big and it has a weighted base on it. I paid $55 for it, so I hate to just chuck it out!

Thanks again,
Lauren (not exactly a tower of patience)

The leaching can continue for months or years after you introduce the piece to your tank. I like the boil/soak method to lessen the effect.

You can also add another carbon cartridge to your filter system to help clear up the staining. Remember to change your carbon cartridge more often if you have a very active leaching piece.
