Tank chaos ... help me! lol | |
ceridwen Enthusiast Posts: 270 Kudos: 296 Votes: 0 Registered: 26-Aug-2003 | Okay - my tank is starting to look like a jungle - I have waaay to many plants and the tiger lotus' don't help any ... Anywho - what I want: Someplace for my marimo balls and cories to live happily! (And my 2 female bettas) Currently Things that are floating: -Glossostigma elatinoides, potanogeton gayi, anubias barteri and lace java fern. And one dwarf onion that I have to replant I'm stuck as to what to do, I know it looks horrible ... but arrrg - it's so daunting! It's a standard 29 gallon - and I am keeping the sand substrate - love the stuff (so do my cories ) Ceridwen attached this image: [img]http://www.fishprofiles.net/attachments/412191.jpg"] |

Charlotte Hobbyist Posts: 55 Kudos: 11 Votes: 0 Registered: 30-Mar-2003 | Hi, I like it too!!! I know that doesn't help when you decide you hate something, but it really does look lovely. Maybe a couple of really green leafed plants would look nice. It's like a living room, ours needs to be rearranged sometimes for me to feel like i'm somewhere new and exciting, when it's really still the same old house! Can I just ask though, what type of sand is that in your tank? I am going to use it next time for some cories too, and I don't know what sort to get, yours looks beautiful. It looks like you haven't had any trouble growing plants in it either! What's your secret Ceridwen? |

ceridwen Enthusiast Posts: 270 Kudos: 296 Votes: 0 Registered: 26-Aug-2003 | Thanks I guess it's just too crowded for my tastes - way too many plants - so I decided how to solve it! I'm resetting up my 10 and putting in 2 dividers so I can house three bettas. Each section is going to be planted pretty well, and I'm going to use the Glosso, lace java fern, java moss and probably some of my aponos. So this will thin out my 29, and make my 10 very pleasant for my bettas. (They're going off with me to college in 5 months) The sand is 2/16s (I really have no idea why they don't just call it 1/8 ) And the thing is - I just redid it. I really think I'm ripping out all my tiger lotus' - well - cept for 2 in the back .... they just like to block out all of the light. My secret? 1.6 wpg, sand - fert tabs and weekly doses of liquid fert. 10 hours of light - and easy growing plants Hmm - thanks a bunch, I just sat thinking about things after I posted this - and it seems that I'll just break it down into two tanks. |

How long did they take to get that big? I put a very small Tiger Lotus into my tank a couple of weeks ago and not doing much of anything yet just a couple of small new leaves. Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

I'd suggest keeping only 3 types of plant in that tank (whichever ones are doing best of course ) then move everything else to the 10 ( or get another tank). That way it'll remain full, but it'll allow your eyes to rest rather than jump around from one plant to the next to the next to the next :%)!. Just my $0.02 though... the rest are for my fishies . ^_^ |

ceridwen Enthusiast Posts: 270 Kudos: 296 Votes: 0 Registered: 26-Aug-2003 | Thanks so much everyone - I am moving most (like Glosso, java ferns, dwarf onions, aponos, some crypts, etc) to my 10, which I'm trying to set up. I need to get the flourite (looking for the black version - they have it on Big Als, but - I really don't want to pay $12 in shipping ... however the bag is $9.99 ... where here the same bag is $19.99 ...) and set up the dividers for my bettas. (IE - silicon and make everything stick ... ) I will definitly post updates of both tanks - and I will be looking for more driftwood as well. I figured with three divided sections in my 10, I could make each one unique for each betta. And each section will only have 1-3 types of plants so it won't be too confusing ... well ... maybe I will put in my blue delta, my yellow/red split tail and either my red cambodian female or my orange/blue veil tail ... So many choices And Babel: I would get another tank (rather set up one of my other tanks) However, I'm going off to college and my parents are trying to get me to condense. So I figured I'd take a 10 with bettas - because my 29 isn't allowed ]:| ... And it's either the bettas or my rat in a 10 - still not sure there |
