Thin Rainbow Slate... | |
stsurbrook Enthusiast Posts: 163 Kudos: 14 Votes: 0 Registered: 16-Jul-2003 | Does anyone know of any place that I can get a lot of "rainbow slate" (sandstone) cheap? I live in Memphis, TN and the stores around here have a SMALL selection available, but I want to cover the entire back of a 2' x 4' (90 gallon, back wall dimensions) tank with it. I think it looks great, but they want about $2.50 for it and the selection just isn't that good. I would also prefer it if the slate was thinner than normal (usually about 1" or so), say about 1/2" thick so it will cut down on the weight and keep me from having to do some WEIRD plumbing for my two Emperor 400 and one H.O.T. 250 filters. Also, I have tried the local "landscaping" stores and they act like they haven't heard of it. Ideally, I would like to get a 36" x 48" slab that *I* can either cut to size or just drop on the ground to create that "creviced" natural look. Any thoughts appreciated! If you look out in the boonies your sure to find somewhere, o and look in the phone book for Landscaping supply stores... |

Just in case the real stone ends up being too pricey or heavy etc., I would imagine you could do a "faux" treatment with epoxy paint on a DIY 3D background to achieve the same look. Let me know if you're interested and I'll drag up some links for you. Great idea |
