Treating New Wood | |

The auction states that 'driftwood is untreated, straight from the beach.' Do I still need to boil it? The problem with doing that is the pieces are quite long, between 2-3 '. Any suggestions? Thanks ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Make sure it's a new or unused one before placing the driftwood in. You can either just soak with hot water from the tap, or if you don't think that would be sufficient you could pour boiling water from a large pot over it. You obviously probably wouldn't be able to boil that much water on your stove top, but I really don't think you need to. I've never boiled any of my driftwood and have gathered my own from beaches on the Oregon Coast when visiting there and have had no dire circumstances come from it. Just soak for a couple of weeks and change the water out regularly and just use hot water from your tap. If you scrub it well with a stiff bristled brush between soakings that will also help to remove any residue or soft wood areas. Jim |
