How large is the piece?
Does it sink?
Has it been treated in any way that you can see? (is it shrink wrapped or does it look fresh from the swamp?)

I'll zip this over to Aquascaping for you

Here is a very good article on using bogwood or driftwood and preparing it. The author did a much better job of explaining it than I could.

Good luck and I hope your fish really enjoy the driftwood.

The instructions say, simply add to Aquarium to display.
It also says "some pieces may float initially.

It also says " Pre-soaking overnight may avoid discolouration; Aquarium Yellowing can be remove with TAP aqua carbon

I have washed it thoroughly with just clean water.
It sorta half floated half sunk but has now settled.

My Ret Black Shark was unsure to start with but he has had a nose around he is as pleased as punch with his new hideout.

good work Leon

You may find that the water turns a yellowy colour. This is the tannic acid (tannins) leaching out. This is normal, and after a few water changes, it should go away

It can drop your pH, and the colour will make it hard to measure, so if the tank water gets very yellow, like tea, do a water change until it lightens up.
