were on a tight budget..so we made do with wat we coud afford (were not poor, just my step mom doesnt want my dad spending so much $ on a fishtank)..anyways i took out the brown gravel..all the natural plastic plants..and the terracota pots and background..and i went for a sorta artic/futuristic look because its in his office and i thought it should look hi-tech and stuff..haha i added black gravel, black and white plants, a neat blackish, purpleish, greyish 3D background we printed on glossy paper from the internet..and we went to a pottery store and picked up a 19 inch tall twisted glass vase kinda thing and put it in the tank(hard to see its kinda near the back right corner of the tank..) and also bought 2 bags of small glass cubes(resembles icecubes) and we stacked them near the front of the tank..all in all it turned out nice and i like the overall look of it..its all purple and black..cooOO00OOool..hehe comments please!

Very creative, I like it. good choice on the docer as it will be easy to clean when you begin to get algae. Mayb if you could find some more taller objects to put up for the background, as right now it looks very much close to teh substrate and the fish seems to be lingering down there too. Mayb find some taller black plants, or make your own by clipping and extending.

Just some ideas

Megil.

Not bad. Your stock looks problematic though

The Clown is social and reaches over 14in long. The black skirts are schooling and need more buddies. The bronze cories would probably apreciate a couple more cories too. The platies look okay. The pearl may be okay in there too.

Very impressive for a hex! Those can be difficult to aquascape due to the angles and you've got a great start on it.

I'm with megil in that you want something taller....because of the dimensions of the tank right now the aquascape just makes the tank look shorter than it is. With a few choice tall objects (either hardscape or plants) you could really make the tank look dramatic. Something to keep in mind for next time you post a pic, (and in general ) is to remove the algae magnet and try and hide the heater a bit.
One idea to try might be to paint the trim. That light wood effect just ruins the work you put into it !. Try sanding it lightly (be carefull the dust does not get in the tank), then carefully paint the trim a nice dark color, or a silver to carry forward your high tech look .

What a good idea Babel. painting the trim will definetly improve things.

I had a hard time locating the "glass vase thingy" in the back as it blends in with the glass and your sci-fi background, Definetly work on making it stand out more, as it looks like a very interesting piece.

Excellent find on the glass pieces, just make sure that however you arrange them they're not likely to get knocked over and break .

Another thought I just had...if you find the sanding down too hard or dont want to run the risk of dust getting into the tank and happen to have a whole mess of ruined CD's laying about you can try pealing the metalic backing from them, or even cutting them in half, or quarters and arranging them to cover the trim. Unfortunatly they cant go inside the tank as water will degrade disc till it comes apart in the tank.

As for the cd's......you can burn them in a microwave for a very very short period of time and it makes some sweet markings. Just be careful.

or could you simply not sand and take a metallic silver marker to it? that stuff seems to cover everything. But i guess it can still flake? dunno but if you use the pen you can get some interesting patterns as the ink consistency varies alot, sure it won't be extremely reflective, but i is an option.

A lot of times those plastic plants just snap
together, and can be taken apart and lengthened.
I think its a very good looking tank.
In a tall tank, you would want to assort the fish
by level.
A 20g doesnt give you much options, so to make
the tank more active, I would stick to small fishes.
PS - peeps its a clown pleco, not a clown loach lol

I think it looks cool as well, I am a fan of plastic plants =p

Also you made them look great in a hex tank!!

Like was said you should get some taller plants to fill up the top see if you can disconnect and make it taller. If you do make sure not to thin out the bottom to much.

Babel you have some great ideas, painting it would be great, get a thick paintbrush and some paint from a model shop, you can even get epoxy sometimes.

I wouldn't use a marker you will see the stroke lines.
