SheKoi Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 553 Votes: 4 Registered: 11-Feb-2004 | are the tank corner sticking over the edge of the tand or is it my eyes playing tricks on me very slightly, it's been like this for years, the main stand broke, never got new one, i'll be moving soon so i'm waiting to get a stand that will fit into new house. here are the photos as tank is now, with no fish http://img45.photobucket.com/albums/v138/shekoi/My%20setups/667c0356.jpg http://img45.photobucket.com/albums/v138/shekoi/My%20setups/new_tank_001.jpg the fish are in now, hope they settle in well enough. should i leave the light off for awhile to help them? my honey gourami is looking slightly faded is this due to stress of moving? will he return to his normal red? SheKoi Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 553 Votes: 4 Registered: 11-Feb-2004 | as i sit here and write this my newly aquascaped tank is heating up, i'll post some picture soon. it's very cloudy at the moment, is this a problem? its from the gravel, i have washed it but as i filled up the tank more 'dust' came out! during process i've got a blue or blck background instead, so once clear i'll decide www.blooming-brilliant.co.uk |

bensaf Fish Master Posts: 1978 Kudos: 1315 Registered: 08-Apr-2004 | Like the first pic in the post above. For the rocks - not a good idead to lean them against the glass putting too much pressure which could lead to cracks. For same reason I don't think you need to remove the sand. When you are making the rock pile just make sure it's stable, you don't want anything falling over and crushing the fish. If any parts are unstable you can glue the the rocks together using aquarium silicone. In the poictires you posted almost all the plants used are the ones i suggested Java Fern , Anubias for small plants at the front (can also be attached to rocks and vals.Crpyts would also work weel as foreground plants. As regards the gourami, you seem to be pretty full, but if your are talking about a partner for the female dwarf, you might get away with another male dwarf, you don't have any fish in there that are going to grow to monster size Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

SheKoi Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 553 Votes: 4 Registered: 11-Feb-2004 | couple more questions. 1 Should i remove sand while aquascaping and adding the rock pile so that the rocks are on a flat bottom? 2 should the rocks in the pile be stuck together with anything, or just piled up against the sides be ok?? more ideas http://img45.photobucket.com/albums/v138/shekoi/ideas/f6128a8f.jpg http://img45.photobucket.com/albums/v138/shekoi/ideas/1100f2e8.jpg http://img45.photobucket.com/albums/v138/shekoi/ideas/5e00f5ae.jpg www.blooming-brilliant.co.uk |

SheKoi Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 553 Votes: 4 Registered: 11-Feb-2004 | i know about the background, never really liked it, to 'busy'. thanks for the ideas. i'll get either blue/black background. the rocks that in my tank now (front) i'll get more of them, and build cave structure on the left handside, with some sort of small plants in front? and java fern and other rock plants on the rocks. i'll then move all the tall grasses to the righthand side to hide the filter. with the wood in front of them. What people think??? also can i fit a male gourami into my tank, 36x14x21 inches, see profile for stock. cheers shekoi. www.blooming-brilliant.co.uk |

bensaf Fish Master Posts: 1978 Kudos: 1315 Registered: 08-Apr-2004 | Hi, It's not the worse background I've seen put yeah lose it. Black or dark Blue. Actually for a tank where the focus is rocks or coral I think the blue usually looks better the the black (which is more suited to a heavily planted tank). But most good plain backgrounds have one side black and one side blue, so you can experiment and see what looks best. If you are going with rock as the focus of the tank, the most important thing (IMO) is just use ONE type of rock and a lot of it, rather then lots of different types of rocks with different colors and textures. Simplicity can be much more striking. For plants some vals around the back and side and some java fern and anubias attached to some of the rock would look good. Babelfish Administrator Small Fry with Ketchup Posts: 6833 Kudos: 8324 Votes: 1570 Registered: 17-Apr-2003 | Lets see...first I'd get rid of the background in favor of a plain one, either black or dark blue. Next decide what you want as the focus, the rocks or the plants. Since you've got sand I'd suggest going with a focus on the rockscape and use the plants just as accents. As for mixing gravel with sand, generally doesn't work too well. The sand being smaller will always work it's way down and compact. ^_^ |
