If anyone has pics of a roman style ancient ruins-y tank, pleast post a pic or give me the link! I am currently doing my new 48 gallon tank, and have the background, gravel, and small roman ruin ornaments, but i have no idea how to put it all together.

background is a beautiful greek ruin scene, you can see it Here

gravel is black, pea sized, and let's see if i can find a pic of my ornaments, shall we?

here's one!

and here's another I'm considering

those are the biggies, and there's a couple of small ones too,

See them here!

I also have some utah ice rock pieces, and a piece of blue glass.

Falstaf, and everyone else, do you accept the challenge?

Love the idea, guppylove. Right now, my tanks are all very natural, though I'd love to the greek/roman ruins thing sometime in the future. Hmm...

Tell you what, I'll take a look at all of this after dinner and see if I can't help you out.

What else are you planning to put in there? Plants, fish, etc...

Thanks for the reply Kitten!

It is currently housing my 3 peppered and 3 bronze cories, 1 otto, 2 amano shrimp, 1 female betta and my black moor. I plan on adding 3 more peppered and 3 more bronze, and I may add a school of 6 albino cories, cuz they will look awesome against the black gravel. Oh, and I may get a couple more ottos, or just give away my poor little lonely guy.

I have it mostly done now, my friend came over and she has the most awesome eye for decor EVER! We bought the greek pavilion, and it is to the right side of the aquarium. I have a bubbles wall going along the left half of the back and around the left corner. The two little ruin pieces are also on the left side, and my utah ice has been arranged almost Stonehenge-y! It honestly looks amazing.

For plants, I have 2 anubias nana that are staying in there, and I plan on getting a sword or two once I get my lighting up and running. It is going to be very minimalist as far as plants go.

I will post pics soon, when my credit card comes in the mail, I plan on buying myself a premie membership!

I have a Roman themed tank. There is a Roman style background that you can get which looks cool with other themed stuff in there. Also, they sell a viking ship (just the front half) which looks a lot like a Roman ship. I have an archway in mine, it looks like a triumphal arch. Sadly, I haven't seen any of those that you had pics of, otherwise I would already have them. I saw one at Meijer yesterday that would have been great if not for the crappy looking corals and starfish extras that were on it, it even had a polyresin plant! The only other things I can find here are pretty cheesy looking columns painted with flourescent colors. Wal-Mart had some things that might work too.

Very nice. I was thinking maybe if you could find some stargrass. It sort of looks like papyrus, which is about the only roman/greek plant I could think of. *grins* Sorta kinda, maybe.

Glad your friend could help... I was trying to make up a mockup, but it wasn't working terribly well. Falstaf is much better. I was thinking maybe java moss on the columns, to age them a bit. Eh, either way, it's what you like. Glad you had someone help you make something you really like.

my goodness, i just had a pretty scary and stupid experience.

I was adding more gravel to the tank, trying to be very careful of the cories and the shrimps while I poured it in by the large water glass full, but those cories can camoflauge pretty damn good, especially over black gravel! Had a heart pounding moment where I could only find 2 of my six cories, and was softly sifting through the gravel with my fingers hoping to "un-bury" the oter four, but to no avail.

At alast I just dumped a bunch of shrimp pellets in a nice open area of the tank, and Lo and Behold! Cories!

It was like they materialized from no where, But DAMN was I glad to see them

I would love to see a pic when you are done. me and my wife are doing a roman type aquarium. One of the things we are doing with the gravel is that we are laying down dark blue gravel and after we setup the roman statues we are laying down white rock between the buildings to look like roads. It looks really kewl.
