i caved and when i saw these fossil catfish for 7.99 i decided to go against proper fishkeeping guidlines and bought one.

It looks like an eel and is currently about 5 inches long.

What is the range and info i should be looking at.

i figure that it will be about 20-30 inch range, and need about 180-300 gallon tank.

Do you know the scientific name? I could not find anything except fossils of catfish when i googled it.

i dont know the specfic name.

i have seen them ADVer... as fossil catfish before either online or at stores.

i believe they are fairly uncommon until recently.

But no.. i dont have the exact name. When i googled photos i was unable to find any.

The fossil cat that I know of is Heteropneustes fossilis, the fish that Cuke linked to. They'll hit about 20", as you suspected. Note that they also pack quite a venomous punch.
