![]() | 30gal Cory only tank |
kmpaton![]() Hobbyist Posts: 91 Kudos: 75 Votes: 36 Registered: 26-Feb-2005 ![]() ![]() | Im thinking of doing a 30gal in my bedroom (much to my wifes dismay)and since Ive been having so much fun with these cories Im addicted. So Calilasseia, Cory Addict, and all you other cory freaks my questions (after I read the Cory intro by Calilasseia): Filtration: Im thinking Eheim canister either the 2213 or the 2026. Good current or too much, or would an additional powerhead help? Substrate: Is sand too fine or should I get small rounded pebbles? Lighting: Do they prefer dim or average lighting? Thats all I can think of now. Kyle |

Posts: 2623 Kudos: 2462 Votes: 337 Registered: 29-Mar-2003 ![]() ![]() | I'd go with the smaller rounded gravel myself, some of the corries might have a bit of trouble with the "sharp" edging of sand ![]() ![]() The eheim 2213 will do a good job on the tank, but unless you already have one and know how to get the stupid thing to start get an occeanic 4...so much easier to start, unlike the 2213 ![]() Give the corries some plants to play in, and an airstone or two to play in... Don't forget some driftwood and java moss...and you'll be set to go.... I know my me ![]() How deep is the tank going to be? I'm not accustomed to the 30 gallon specs...you still might want to have something on the top to swim, even if it is just a betta or couple of betta girls...let your wife find one she likes ![]() ![]() Oh and I'd go with 20 corries or so that I like ![]() heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." No problems with the cories. Driftwood, rocks, river pebbles...they seem to enjoy anything like that to rest on. And they do like to play in the bubbles from air stones ![]() Are there any particular types you're interested in? ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Rounded gravel substrates are ideal for the smaller Corys. While it's true that some might also be happy over sand, there are issues with one or two species - habrosus in particular is notorious for being fussy about substrate (noted both by Cory_Di here on the Board and several authors including Lambourne, who has bred this species). Go for rounded gravel with a 1.5 to 2 mm particle size, and you'll be able to have habrosus in there along with just about any other small Cory species you can lay your hands on. Flourite I'd avoid because of Cory_Di's issues with it and her habrosus. Oh, and remember, with the smaller Corys, decent sized groups of each species is the order of the day. Which will lead to them being little bundles of fun once they're acclimatised! ![]() |
