Okay, so I went down to the LFS for my shift today, and to check out some dekeyseria/chaestoma/parancistrus (the latter two never came, and the dekeyseria were infected that came in today, when lo behold, Steve, another employee had obtained a para pleco, full grown, that had been in a relative's BRACKISH tank. He, though, no longer had a place to house it, so turned it in for store credit. Well, this guy was GORGEOUS. The orange stood out like no other rio para I've ever seen. I had to have him. And, well, now I do. Without an employee discount, he would have been 40 bucks .

The colors are a bit faded as he was still in the bag. He's about 6"-7".

Paras are cool. We have a four incher and some smaller ones, and I have to say that they're pretty nifty fish. Good save.

That is a stunning Plec.

What's the full taxonomic name?

And can we see pics when he (or she) is settled in your new home?

Retired L-75, now known as Peckoltia sabaji, after the celebrated Pennsylvanian icthyologist. "Para" refers to the locality from where it was first caught, documented by Armbruster, I believe.

Here she is last night, note the still-faded dorsal area.

She is back to her full colors today, but is hiding under a large honking piece of DW.

EDIT: she came for feeding this morning.

Honestly, can you tell me that a 7" plec like that isn't worth $40 anyway? LoL, most of the 3" plecs around here are already $30, most 6-7" plecs are darned expensive. Maybe I just live in an expensive area... :%)

Nice find. Unfortunately I haven't seen many good plecs around here recently, it's really disappointing... Now that I think of it, I haven't seen any good ones since I bought my Royal over a year ago.

Aquabid is always nice. Is there anything in particular you're looking for? My store gets some great fish, and if you REALLY wanted something, I could ship; for example, last week, we got in true orange seams . I was trying to control my spending to pay for more L262, though, so it was a no go. Then again, overnight + actual cost is a lot of dough.

hmmmmmmmm, i dunno if this has any relevance, but plecos in the south of england are damn expensive aswell, a 3 inch gold nugget pleco cost £20, and they look so cool:#( hmmmmmmm, i'm having to stick with the cheaper sailfins at the moment, they cost about £8 for a 7 inch specimen

gold nuggets are always well expensive tho piranha, it's ridiculous how much the small ones are. You should save up though because they are so lush when they get bigger i love them

Gold Nuggets are expected to be £20, you could expect to pay £15 for a 2 inch one. I was gonna pay £120 before for a Plec before but in end just thought no, too much for one fish at the moment. Maybe when I older
