My Common Pleco (6" has started acting aggressively lately. This only happens just after feeding, and everything seems perfectly fine afterwards, but the rapid darting around is a little worrying. I've just had my pair of rainbow cichlids give birth to fry and with them guarding the fry and him batering around, I'm concerned that there is going to be some serious damage caused to either/others. It's in a 60" x 24" x 18" tank so there's room for inhabitants to escape away but just thought others might have experience or advice to offer.

Plecos will get aggressive if they are not getting enough food. I have seen a pleco suck the "slim" off of other fish. Are you feeding the plec algae wafers or some kind veg?

It seems to get its fair share of sinking pellets, fresh lettuce and cucumber and I never clean the internal glass so can't see it being an issue of not getting enough algae but the fact that it is only showing aggression whilst/just after feeding does suggest it might not be getting enough - maybe I'll drop some extra pellets after lights out to give it a greater chance to forage in the evening. Thanks a lot.

most plecs over 7 inches or so can hold their own with most aggressive cichlids. I had some that would even chase them.
This is normal.

It's not him that I was worried about (although his fins are a bit battered as a result of the fighting with parent Rainbow cichlids protecting fry). More the stress he was causing the others. See how the night feeding goes.... Thanks again for all the advice
