I've seen albino corys for sale at Walmart... can anyone tell me something about these fish (which scientific name is it?) and if you have had any experience with the ones from Walmart?

Species is Corydoras aeneus. Grows to 3" long. Water should be soft and neutral, with a temperture of 75 to 78 degrees. Feed with shrimp pellets. Needs 5 shoal mates.

That's pretty much everything you need to know.

I don't know the scientific names but they are great. I have dark gravel in my 46 gallon tank and the show up great. Very active fish. As for walmart that always scares me. When I fish started getting fish I bought a few from Walmart and developed ick a few days later. Don't know for sure if that is the problem but it is the only time I have had problems. I would just really take a look at walmarts tanks. My local walmart always has a few floaters or sickly looking fish so I stay clear. My maybe it is just this store. If you can find Albino corys elsewhere I would highly recommend them.

Interesting worthwhile info.... would I need some kind of cave or other hiding place for them? Do small clay flowerpots half-buried in the substrate work if they are brand new and washed out beforehand?

It's not necessary but a nice touch. I've got a pair of albinos from a former school, and they like to hang out from time to time in the clay pot. It makes a cute pic (sorry, I must still learn how to take and post the cute pic).

As mentioned in another thread the cories should be kept in groups of 6+. That said, they are rather slow growing after they reach ~1.5" and take some time to reach their maximum length, if they are not one of the small cories (habrosus, pygmaeus, etc.)
